The First Thousand Days (FTD) of a child’s life, from conception to two years old, offers an incredible opportunity for the local church to make a positive impact in the developmental trajectory of the child and strengthen families. All research states that this early investment has the power to significantly change the course of South Africa’s future. There are a number of practical ways to encourage, affirm and increase the capacity of parents and caregivers so that they can provide the responsive nurturing care that their young children require to thrive and flourish.
Sikunye, an initiative of Common Good, is passionate about equipping and empowering local churches to support mothers, fathers, and caregivers to provide the necessary nurturing care to ensure the healthy development of the youngest amongst us. Hence, Sikunye is designing various church-based resources, tools, and initiatives based on evidence-based best practice that will positively impact families and children in their FTD.
We are excited to invite all the churches in South Peninsula to attend this upcoming event where Sikunye will interactively present how local churches are equipped and uniquely positioned to change the trajectory of young children’s lives in South Africa.

Who is this event for: this event is open to all Christ-followers, who want to gain insight into how they can practically support and care for those in the FTD season, in their personal capacity and as part of a local church.
The topics of the evening will explore practically what the local church can do gathered and scattered to ensure that all children thrive and flourish during this “once in a lifetime opportunity” that FTD presents. We will weave the science and theology of FTD together and highlight stories and testimonies of people who are involved and what they have seen making a difference. You will leave freshly inspired with the next steps that you can take as you seek to play your role in seeing society transformed.
Every family everywhere needs to belong and to be connected into a caring community that ensures their ability to provide responsive nurturing care to their baby. Regardless of its size, resources or community context, every church everywhere can do this. And, individually, every one of us has a part to play in seeing children everywhere thrive.
Join hands with us as we connect with and show care for families with children in the First Thousand days of life. Together we can create opportunities for greatness to grow and thrive in our nation.
