Honouring Business Women in our Community

One Stop Property Services

Martina Riechert is a 57 year old woman, originally from Germany, who owns and runs a successful building and renovating business in Cape Town, One Stop Property Services.

The building bug first bit 27 years ago when Martina undertook renovating her own house in Pretoria. She got involved in each process from mixing the cement to plastering the walls, and learnt the trade from the people involved. After this, she built a house for her mother, and as it became clear she had a talent for this type of work, she started being approached by estate agents to build houses
for reselling.

15 years ago Martina moved to Cape Town, and designed and built her own house in Capri. One Stop Property Services continued to expand with new builds and renovations/alterations to houses and separate entrances.

Martina has developed a reputation as being a reliable and honest builder in the South Peninsula. She believes it is very important to have the right team of workers, and good support systems. She is very much part of the working team, usually onsite, involved in all aspects of work. Their work ethic revolves around having pride in the job done, and maintaining good communications with the client.

“What a wonderful team, high standard of work, very thorough and the end result is a fantastic renovation.” Diana Myburgh (client)

Diane Pardoe is the owner and founder of FINTAX, a Cape Town-based Accounting and Tax Consultancy Service that opened its doors in Valyland Shopping Centre, Fish Hoek nearly 15 years ago and has been growing steadily ever since.

Owner and manager, Diane Pardoe, had long envisioned such a practice right here on her doorstep after having travelled for many years “up the line”. At the time of opening, Diane had had extensive experience working for some of the larger Accounting firms such as Deloitte Touché and Ernst and Young (where she completed her articles) together with work for some large Corporates and even lecturing to University students completing their BCom degrees.

Diane found that there was a huge demand for her tax and accounting services in the Fish Hoek Valley and soon had to expand quite rapidly to accommodate such demand.

Village Gardens

Garden landscaping tends to be a male-orientated industry, but personally, I feel women generally have more vision and perspective in the planning of a landscaped garden.

Knowledge is power and I have learnt as much as I can in both hard and soft landscaping.  I listen carefully to what my clients envisage and I love that I can create a beautiful space that is environmentally manageable and stunning. It is all about working with clients and the space available to make their dream a reality.

Bringing the ‘wow’ factor to someone’s garden and hearing from the client how much they love it makes all the hard work well worth it!

My love of being outdoors, and anything related to gardening was an overwhelming incentive to become a landscape gardener. I am passionate about landscaping and all it’s diversity.
I enjoy working hard with my team, but, ultimately, I call the shots!

All Steel in Style

All Steel in Style is a small steelworks business started by Brent (in her case, a woman’s name) under the guidance of her partner, Mark.

Mark has 35-years of experience, but entering this industry held numerous challenges for Brent, technically, as well as given that it’s mostly male-dominated. The journey has taken her through learning about mild steel metalwork, stainless steel, automation, and construction beams, to everything in between; and growing a business in times when the steel sector has seen many changes and price increases. Not being afraid of hard work, Brent started off cutting and grinding metal, and mixing concrete to throw sliding gate tracks; and when the business took off, the administration of it became full time.

She takes pride in the fact that All Steel in Style’s clients regularly return to them for new projects; and a lot of new business comes from referrals.

Best of all, she loves the fact that every day she learns something new.

Cape Point Vineyards

Did you know that Riandri Visser is the Winemaker at Cape Point Vineyards?

Set against a rocky mountain outcrop on the Cape Peninsula, Cape Point Vineyards deals in Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon, grown on granitic, ocean-infused soils. The most famous of their wines is the blend known as Isliedh, the 2017 vintage the top scoring wine in the Aerobotics Sauv-Sem Blend & Wooded Sauvignon Blanc Report 2018.

“With the 2017 we changed the percentage of Semillon: it went up to 24% whereas it used to be at 17%,” explains Riandri. “Being my first solo vintage, I wanted to respect the wine but at the same time to also make my own mark”.

That’s not all she did differently this vintage. “While the wine usually spends 10 months in barrel before bottling, this vintage, instead of bottling it straight after barrelling, we left it in steel tanks for a further five months. The wine was quite angular and I wanted to give the two cultivars a chance to merge.” At just 28-years-old, it was a bold move for this young local winemaker – who stays in Noordhoek and loves to surf – to make these changes.

Though she’s not one to play it safe. Born and bred in Cape Town, after school Riandri headed to Stellenbosch University to study graphic design, but her life took a different turn and she took a gap year, during which I worked as a waitress and I started to get exposed to wines…” Within the year she had signed up at Elsenberg. Wine went from a marginal interest to a full-blown obsession. “Cape Point Vineyards is about this,” she says gesturing at the vision before us. “I can almost imagine the wind blowing through my hair, and that salty feeling on my skin.
