Penguin Festival 2018
This special day is dedicated to raising worldwide awareness about the plight of the endangered African penguin, the only penguin endemic to the African continent.
The day will start at Seaforth Beach at 10am for public to witness the release of rehabilitated African penguins back to the wild. These birds have all been nursed back to health and some hand-reared at SANCCOB’s seabird hospital and Chick Rearing Unit.
After the penguin release, we’ll make our way to the Simon’s Town Navy Sports Fields, situated right next to Seaforth Beach, for the rest of the festivities. The sun will be out and this year’s festival will include live music, environmental talks, an edutainment marquee as well as marine conservation exhibitions.
Entrance for this jam-packed day is absolutely free, and a R50 fee covers the kids’ zone. Kids’ activities include: mini rides, inflatable obstacle course, face-painting, jumping castle, climbing wall and best dressed penguin outfit competition. The adults will be well catered for too. Take your pick from craft beers to wine tasting, and curb the hunger with fresh boerewors rolls and a variety of food trucks to choose your favourite chow-down on the spot.
When: 10 November 2018, 10am
Where: SA Navy Sports Field in Martello Rd, Simon’s Town.
Admission is free with a cost of R50 per child for the Kids’ Zone.
